Picture Day Schedule

*There has been a death in Angela's family, we are sorry for their loss, and we appreciate your patience with a delay getting out this month's rehearsal schedule.  For this weekend, I imagine it will be the same/similar as last week, but stay tuned!

Picture Schedule: Friday, November 1
Dancers must come at their assigned time in order to have time to put on their
costume and be ready for pictures. Please come with hair and make-up done.   This is a great opportunity to practice performance hair and makeup!

Photo cost is: edit:  here is the flier from the photographer! (click to see it bigger)

If you do not want to buy photos, that is fine, but you must come anyway to be in the group shots.

Arrival Time:

2:30 Snow

3:00 Spanish, Arabian, Mirliton, Chinese, Doll

3:30 Waltz of the Flowers

4:00 Mice

4:30 Soldiers

5:00 Buffoons/Mother Ginger

5:30 Party Girls/Party Boys

6:00 Nutcracker, Clara, Drosselmeyer

General Picture taking rules:
Arrival:  Please come in your nude leotard.  We do not have enough changing rooms to accommodate everyone.  Dancing Bras only.  We do not want to see your bra.  Don’t try to hide it.  We can still see it.  Use a dancer’s bra.
No Jewelry.  This means earrings, rings, bracelets, necklaces, etc.
No Fingernail polish!!!! (if you have it on your toes that’s okay)

See below for post on hair/makeup details!

Hair & Makeup Info

Make-up:  Dancers should wear eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, blush and lipstick.  All make-up should be in neutral tones that compliment your daughter's skin tone.  No blues or purples please.  Lips should be also in natural tones (yes, you may use pink or a red, just not bright reds or pinks that look unnatural).  Snow should have a subtler lipstick color.
Apply Lipstick after your costume is on.  Remove Lipstick before you take your costume off!!
Hair:  Hair should be pulled back into a professional ballet bun.*  No bangs, curls, bump styles, or hair ornaments.  Hair should be SLICKED back with no part.  NO frizzies or flyaways.  Anna reports that the cheapest gels work the best for that and be generous with it! :)  The point of a slick bun is to create a nice, clean, UNIFORM appearance.  Hair nets for the buns are not necessary for photos, but need to be worn for dress rehearsal/performances (you can get them at Sally's).
Proper bun height and more info below:

Photo from here.  This bun is a good height, but not slicked back/neat enough.
More bun examples here and here.

*Buffoons/Party girls/Soldiers see exception below.  Boys should have hair neatly combed.  Boys don't need makeup for photos, but may need a little for the performance.
*Exceptions: these are the only exceptions
Make-up:
Buffoons- Make-up should be done in neutral tones with an accent of pink or purple on the eyes and/or cheeks (no purple on cheeks.  Your lips should be pink-but not unnatural.  You are suppose to look like happy candy!)
Soldiers- Make-up should be done in neutral tones.  We will add round cheeks when you arrive.  Please bring a red lipstick so that we can apply it for you in a heart shape.
Hair:
Party Girls:  Please come with party girl hair.  Half up/Half down with ringlet curls (as discussed before).
Buffoons:  2 Buns  on top of head.  Not messy buns.

Soldiers:  Your bun must be a low ballet bun to accommodate your soldier's hat!  I found a photo from 5 years ago, when one of our ballet classes used part of the soldiers' costumes for the Christmas recital.  The bun has to be really low, or it will make the hat too low in their eyes. *EDIT - hair must be done with crossing braids - see here for more info.

Ad Fee Reminder

Since someone asked for  a reminder:  each dancer should have already completed their $50 participation fee ($10 of that was the audition fee), and is now responsible for a $50 ad fee OR $50 donation.

You can pay the $50 and be listed as a 'Friend of' South Pointe Ballet in the program (remember we are no longer doing personal ads for the dancers), OR you can ask a business for an ad.  Ads will be full-page (unless it is a business card), which means a half of 8.5" x 11" paper, folded in half (like a program), oriented vertically.

Here are a couple of examples of past programs:

Covers
Full-size ads

Click here if you need another copy of the letter about ads.

Feel free to ask any other questions!

(Also remember to make sure you are subscribed to this blog by putting your email address into the box on the right - guaranteed there will be a lot of updates as we get closer to the performance!)

AD FEES DUE!

Well, we obviously didn't realize it was Fall Break when we scheduled the ad due date - ha!  Ads/donations are now due by NEXT Friday, October 25th.  Remember that checks have to be made out to South Pointe Ballet, NOT C&C, but you can still drop them off at the studio - preferably in an envelope with "South Pointe" or "Nutcracker" written on it.
Thank you!!!

Ads Due Next Week!

(I'm going to keep the poster as the top post, be sure to check below it if you are not subscribed!)

Just a reminder that ad money is due next week!  Your dancer can get an ad or you can make the $50 donation as a Friend Of South Pointe Ballet.

Thank you!

Also, rehearsals are being added for the party scene.  They will have an additional rehearsal each Friday from 5:30 - 6:30pm.  The October rehearsal schedule has been updated.

Party children fitting

Remember if you have a party girl or boy (or Clara), you need to take them to Broadway Attire this Saturday at 10:00 to fit them for costumes.

There is not an official address for Broadway Attire, but it should be easy to find.  Head to 1967 W 13930 S.  The garage where everything is is just north of this address.  Angela's cell is 801-201-4112 just in case you get lost!
