Last Minute Reminders

Alright, tomorrow is the big day!

A couple of reminders:

Dancers need to be at the school no later than 6:00pm Wednesday - Friday.

If they want to, they can come at 5:00 for a pre-performance warmup.

Parents, we are probably going to need a few extra volunteers.  Since you have to drop your kids off anyway, check in with us and see if we need extra help.  Specifically an extra backstage helper, ticket sellers, and maybe an extra costume helper may be needed.  All parents are expected to volunteer in some capacity.

Dancers need to arrive with hair and makeup done, clean tights, etc.  Wear a nude leotard, we don't want dancers changing in the bathroom.  Please make sure dancers with bangs have them neatly pulled back, and anyone wearing a bun is wearing a traditional/high bun with their hair SLICKED back, with NO PART (as discussed here).

If at all possible, no glasses (my daughter wears glasses (and needs them!) but has never had a problem performing without them).  And remember, no fingernail polish!

Dancers will not be allowed in the auditorium during the performance.  They need to remain in the backstage area.

Remember no eating or drinking in costume and NO food or drink in the auditorium.

Doors will open at 6:00.

Hopefully the roads are better tomorrow, but if not, obviously allow for extra time to get to the school so we don't have anyone arriving late.

See you there!

TICKET PRESALE INFORMATION!

Tickets for the Nutcracker performances are now available HERE.

There is a $1 processing fee per ticket, so you will see the prices listed as $9/$6.

This gives you the chance to skip the ticket line and go straight to the auditorium door with your printed ticket.

Buying tickets online helps us know how many people to expect in the audience, and how many tickets we can sell at the door.

Remember that the preshow (youth choir groups) starts at 6:45pm, so you still need to be in your seats by 6:30.  We highly recommend getting there EARLY (doors open at 6:00pm).

Due to the popularity of this ballet, we suggest purchasing your tickets and arriving early to be seated.

Tickets at the door will still be available, on a first come, first serve basis.

Last Chance for ordering photos!

At dress rehearsal last night, there were some parents who were wondering if they could still order your child's individual or group photos.  The photographer, Natalee Cole, can still take orders TODAY (Tuesday) only, as the photos will be printed tomorrow morning.

All photos will be ready for pickup at the Wednesday performance.

If you would still like to order photos, the prices are:

5x7 Cast Photo = $10
8x10 Cast Photo = $15
Customized Collage = $20 (as shown above)
CD (Digital Images include individual, group, and cast photo) = $10
Email your order to Natalee directly at nataleecole73ATgmail(dotcom) and you can pay her Wednesday evening at the school before the performance (cash or check).

Dress rehearsal time change!

Reminder

Hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving!

Just a reminder, there IS rehearsal for those who are in town tomorrow, Saturday, from 12-2.

Dress rehearsal is MONDAY!  Please be on time with hair and makeup done.  Remember all info for that is here.  Please make sure you've read this note, too.

Parents, if you are volunteering for ticket sales,  hair and makeup, costumes, or backstage help, please stay so you can learn what you need to do on performance nights.

And then remember that you can buy tickets online before the performances if you want to!

Updated info for soldier hair!

Soldiers should have their hair in a crossing braid style bun.  Click HERE for instructions and photos, but note that the bun in the photos is still a little bit too high.  It must be really low to go under the hair.

Also remember that Soldiers need to come with hair and makeup done to dress rehearsal and performances, but NOT cheeks and lips, which will be done for you.

I will update the hair/makeup page with this new info.

Important Info!

Dancers were all given a note with the following information, just wanted to make sure everyone read it!

Also, there will be a pre-performance warmup at 5pm at the middle school on performance days.  Otherwise, dancers need to be at school no later than 6pm.

*****
Dancer and Parents,

As we are approaching our performance day, we want to thank you for all your time and effort in doing your best and helping where you can! There are a few things we would like to remind you about:

•         Dress Rehearsal is at Fort Herriman Middle School on December 2 at 4 p.m. Please be on time, with make-up and hair done. Check blog for details. Costumes will be at the school.

•         There will be a cast picture taken on that day. If you would like to purchase one please bring a check made out to Natalee Cole. 5x7: $10-8x10: $15 You will also be able to pick up your pictures that day if you ordered group and individuals

•         We have gotten a videographer that will be filming the performance. If you would like to purchase a DVD, you may order one on December 2 for $20. These will be available to purchase on December 4-6 for anyone that attends, but the price will increase to $25 on those dates. So, if you would like one for $20 please be prepared to purchase one at dress rehearsal.

•         There will be a Short meeting for all parents that have signed up to help during performances (examples: hair, makeup, costumes, ticket sales, etc) at the beginning of the dress rehearsal on Dec 2. Please be there to listen to instructions, so we don’t have to repeat it every night of the performance. If you are signed up to be prop help or help with scenery changes, please stay and learn your part during the dress rehearsal.

•         Please bring water to drink. Remember you may not eat or drink in your costume. No food or drink is allowed in the auditorium. All drinks/snacks must be left outside. Dancers must be out of costume to eat or drink (even water).

•         If you are only in Act 1 and would like to leave after the cast picture and your rehearsal is done you may.

•         Your complimentary tickets will be passed out at dress rehearsal on December 2. If your dancer is not there, you will not receive these passes. They will not be available to you any other night.

Publicity

This year we had some fliers printed for girls to post in places like schools, libraries, parents' offices, etc. We didn't print as many as in previous years, since so many people are more likely to share it electronically.  If you want to print/post your own, here are the images:

To use these, first click them to get the full-size image, then right-click to save them to your computer.

The first photo is a large file:

The second one has been scaled down a lot.  It would be better for sending via email (that's how I invited our family/friends/neighbors!) or posting on blogs/facebook, etc.  Use these wherever you want to share the info!
I also made a couple of PDF's that you can print.  The photo quality isn't as good here, but they work for fliers - or make your own using the images above.

One large photo on page click here.

Four small fliers per page click here.

**You will notice a change in the poster - We added to check here for ticket information - that is because we are going to be able to do ticket pre-sales (yay!) through Herriman City.  We should have the info soon, and as soon as I have the link for you, I will post the information here!**

(If I get any more info on this, I will post it here).

Picture Day Schedule

*There has been a death in Angela's family, we are sorry for their loss, and we appreciate your patience with a delay getting out this month's rehearsal schedule.  For this weekend, I imagine it will be the same/similar as last week, but stay tuned!

Picture Schedule: Friday, November 1
Dancers must come at their assigned time in order to have time to put on their
costume and be ready for pictures. Please come with hair and make-up done.   This is a great opportunity to practice performance hair and makeup!

Photo cost is: edit:  here is the flier from the photographer! (click to see it bigger)

If you do not want to buy photos, that is fine, but you must come anyway to be in the group shots.

Arrival Time:

2:30 Snow

3:00 Spanish, Arabian, Mirliton, Chinese, Doll

3:30 Waltz of the Flowers

4:00 Mice

4:30 Soldiers

5:00 Buffoons/Mother Ginger

5:30 Party Girls/Party Boys

6:00 Nutcracker, Clara, Drosselmeyer

General Picture taking rules:
Arrival:  Please come in your nude leotard.  We do not have enough changing rooms to accommodate everyone.  Dancing Bras only.  We do not want to see your bra.  Don’t try to hide it.  We can still see it.  Use a dancer’s bra.
No Jewelry.  This means earrings, rings, bracelets, necklaces, etc.
No Fingernail polish!!!! (if you have it on your toes that’s okay)

See below for post on hair/makeup details!

Hair & Makeup Info

Make-up:  Dancers should wear eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, blush and lipstick.  All make-up should be in neutral tones that compliment your daughter's skin tone.  No blues or purples please.  Lips should be also in natural tones (yes, you may use pink or a red, just not bright reds or pinks that look unnatural).  Snow should have a subtler lipstick color.
Apply Lipstick after your costume is on.  Remove Lipstick before you take your costume off!!
Hair:  Hair should be pulled back into a professional ballet bun.*  No bangs, curls, bump styles, or hair ornaments.  Hair should be SLICKED back with no part.  NO frizzies or flyaways.  Anna reports that the cheapest gels work the best for that and be generous with it! :)  The point of a slick bun is to create a nice, clean, UNIFORM appearance.  Hair nets for the buns are not necessary for photos, but need to be worn for dress rehearsal/performances (you can get them at Sally's).
Proper bun height and more info below:

Photo from here.  This bun is a good height, but not slicked back/neat enough.
More bun examples here and here.

*Buffoons/Party girls/Soldiers see exception below.  Boys should have hair neatly combed.  Boys don't need makeup for photos, but may need a little for the performance.
*Exceptions: these are the only exceptions
Make-up:
Buffoons- Make-up should be done in neutral tones with an accent of pink or purple on the eyes and/or cheeks (no purple on cheeks.  Your lips should be pink-but not unnatural.  You are suppose to look like happy candy!)
Soldiers- Make-up should be done in neutral tones.  We will add round cheeks when you arrive.  Please bring a red lipstick so that we can apply it for you in a heart shape.
Hair:
Party Girls:  Please come with party girl hair.  Half up/Half down with ringlet curls (as discussed before).
Buffoons:  2 Buns  on top of head.  Not messy buns.

Soldiers:  Your bun must be a low ballet bun to accommodate your soldier's hat!  I found a photo from 5 years ago, when one of our ballet classes used part of the soldiers' costumes for the Christmas recital.  The bun has to be really low, or it will make the hat too low in their eyes. *EDIT - hair must be done with crossing braids - see here for more info.

Ad Fee Reminder

Since someone asked for  a reminder:  each dancer should have already completed their $50 participation fee ($10 of that was the audition fee), and is now responsible for a $50 ad fee OR $50 donation.

You can pay the $50 and be listed as a 'Friend of' South Pointe Ballet in the program (remember we are no longer doing personal ads for the dancers), OR you can ask a business for an ad.  Ads will be full-page (unless it is a business card), which means a half of 8.5" x 11" paper, folded in half (like a program), oriented vertically.

Here are a couple of examples of past programs:

Covers
Full-size ads

Click here if you need another copy of the letter about ads.

Feel free to ask any other questions!

(Also remember to make sure you are subscribed to this blog by putting your email address into the box on the right - guaranteed there will be a lot of updates as we get closer to the performance!)

AD FEES DUE!

Well, we obviously didn't realize it was Fall Break when we scheduled the ad due date - ha!  Ads/donations are now due by NEXT Friday, October 25th.  Remember that checks have to be made out to South Pointe Ballet, NOT C&C, but you can still drop them off at the studio - preferably in an envelope with "South Pointe" or "Nutcracker" written on it.
Thank you!!!

Ads Due Next Week!

(I'm going to keep the poster as the top post, be sure to check below it if you are not subscribed!)

Just a reminder that ad money is due next week!  Your dancer can get an ad or you can make the $50 donation as a Friend Of South Pointe Ballet.

Thank you!

Also, rehearsals are being added for the party scene.  They will have an additional rehearsal each Friday from 5:30 - 6:30pm.  The October rehearsal schedule has been updated.

Party children fitting

Remember if you have a party girl or boy (or Clara), you need to take them to Broadway Attire this Saturday at 10:00 to fit them for costumes.

There is not an official address for Broadway Attire, but it should be easy to find.  Head to 1967 W 13930 S.  The garage where everything is is just north of this address.  Angela's cell is 801-201-4112 just in case you get lost!

Tuesday, October 1, 2013

Order

Just a reminder for any girl wanting to order a dance bra, sign up this week at the studio!  We started a list on Saturday, ask Angela or Anna if you're interested.

Party Girl Hair

Party Girl Moms - start thinking about your girl's hair for the party scene.  All of them will need ringlets with the front pulled back.  Here are a few examples from other Nutcrackers.

from this video

This blog has some information and photos of good ringlets vs. poor ringlets.

Getting great ringlets can be tricky!  More information coming!

Parent Help Needed: Building a Sleigh and Painting

We are in need of someone to make a sleigh.  One side needs to have a big snowflake or 3-5 good sized snowflakes on it.  The other side needs to have  candy on it.  Perhaps lollipops and red and white mints etc.   The budget is $50.  It does need to roll and turn.  Think of the big Home Depot carts that you put lumber on.  It also needs to have a something for Clara to hold onto.

We are also in need of some painters to paint a toy box and possibly the sleigh.

Anyone who can help us with this - leave a comment, or talk to Angela ASAP!  Thank you!

Required costume pieces

Just a heads up, so that if you don't already have these, you have time to find them:

All boys, soldiers, and mice will need BLACK ballet slippers (not jazz shoes).  Here are some for $13.50 with free shipping.  Used is fine if you can find/borrow them!

All girls need to wear a nude-colored leotard under their costume.

All girls who wear bras will need a DANCE BRA  (click link to see example).  You can't wear regular/white bras under your costumes.  The dance bras have clear straps and can be changed so that they work with all costumes.  Angela can put in an order for these - if you are interested, sign up this weekend at rehearsal.  They will run about $14.

And of course, just a reminder that all girls  will need new pink tights (no runs, holes) for the performance.

Party Scene Costume Fitting Date

Party girls and boys, mark your calendar for October 5th at 10am. This will be a mandatory meeting to try on costumes for your scene.  You will need to meet at BROADWAY ATTIRE (address coming soon).

Tuesday, September 17, 2013

Date Change

The last dress rehearsal date has changed from December 3 to December 2.  We will now have our last complete dress rehearsal on Monday, December 2.  I have updated the Parent Meeting post to reflect the correct date.  Thank you.
