Hair & Makeup Info

Make-up:  Dancers should wear eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, blush and lipstick.  All make-up should be in neutral tones that compliment your daughter's skin tone.  No blues or purples please.  Lips should be also in natural tones (yes, you may use pink or a red, just not bright reds or pinks that look unnatural).  Snow should have a subtler lipstick color.
Apply Lipstick after your costume is on.  Remove Lipstick before you take your costume off!!
Hair:  Hair should be pulled back into a professional ballet bun.*  No bangs, curls, bump styles, or hair ornaments.  Hair should be SLICKED back with no part.  NO frizzies or flyaways.  Anna reports that the cheapest gels work the best for that and be generous with it! :)  The point of a slick bun is to create a nice, clean, UNIFORM appearance.  Hair nets for the buns are not necessary for photos, but need to be worn for dress rehearsal/performances (you can get them at Sally's).
Proper bun height and more info below:

Photo from here.  This bun is a good height, but not slicked back/neat enough.
More bun examples here and here.

*Buffoons/Party girls/Soldiers see exception below.  Boys should have hair neatly combed.  Boys don't need makeup for photos, but may need a little for the performance.
*Exceptions: these are the only exceptions
Make-up:
Buffoons- Make-up should be done in neutral tones with an accent of pink or purple on the eyes and/or cheeks (no purple on cheeks.  Your lips should be pink-but not unnatural.  You are suppose to look like happy candy!)
Soldiers- Make-up should be done in neutral tones.  We will add round cheeks when you arrive.  Please bring a red lipstick so that we can apply it for you in a heart shape.
Hair:
Party Girls:  Please come with party girl hair.  Half up/Half down with ringlet curls (as discussed before).
Buffoons:  2 Buns  on top of head.  Not messy buns.

Soldiers:  Your bun must be a low ballet bun to accommodate your soldier's hat!  I found a photo from 5 years ago, when one of our ballet classes used part of the soldiers' costumes for the Christmas recital.  The bun has to be really low, or it will make the hat too low in their eyes. *EDIT - hair must be done with crossing braids - see here for more info.
